    JMT Hammocking

Has anyone done any Hammocking on the JMT or PCT. I am looking to plan a trip out west for late summer next year. For those who have the fortune of living out west any suggestions would be good. Also, somewhere where my wife could entertain herself for a 4 or 5 days would be nice also.

Send your wife to Tahoe or Reno. San Fran is only 4 hours or so.

I think whiteblaze had a thread on hammocking the JMT. Mowgli just hiked it and knows a bit about hammocks...you could PM him for details.

    Aloha,
Well I just got back in Oct from the JMT and from Yosemite Valley (Happy Isles) to Tuolumne Meadows and to Reds Meadows...there would be no problem in using a hammock.
BUT...the trees are HUGE so you need a lot of length in support rope.
Also after Reds it harder to find places to camp with easy access to trees.
Remember most of the JMT is above treeline.

I do believe one of the JRB team did it...not sure how the hammock worked the whole way. I know another couple brought theirs and had to use them as a bivy most of the way.

For me it was just way to confining...and I took a tent instead...yep hugged the ground a few days!!!
