    Slap straps SUCK!

So I got the ENO Slap strap Pro's for REI four months ago ($24.95).... I noticed the stretch... I returned them..I was at the used equipment sale and I saw them there for $9.00 and thought I would be nice to leave them on the trees in my back yard thus making backyard hangs a little easier.. I could allow for the stretch.. so i re purchased them and put them on the trees in my yard about a month ago. Why am I writing this post a 1:45 am? because about an half hour ago I got dropped! The Slap strap failed! They are rated to 400 lbs and I'm 325lbs...........

    Thumbs down They do suck!

...and what's worse, ENO doesn't seem to care. They appear to be okay with putting out a sucky product.

That doesn't make sense because they put a tremendous amount of effort into research and design for their hammocks and tarps. They KNOW they could just change the material used on the straps. It boggles the mind...

Happy ending: I use mine for tree wraps. I put cheapo 'biners on all the loops and hang my equipment to keep it off the ground. It's a perfect setup for my feed bag and Boatabag (water bag).

Not good... but a good lesson for all those (not meaning you) on here who constantly post how margins of safety are for nerds and eggheads (or some such).

Am very glad you did not get seriously hurt!

The Choir says "Amen" Big Dave.

You might want to share this with other REI customers. I can't believe all the 4 and 5 star reviews this product has - http://www.rei.com/product/768731

It would be nice if somebody reviewed them who spent more than an hour or two in a hammock.

I have to agree. I tried these out last night and it was ridiculous. I just added my review to the REI website. I love the ENO singlenest but I'm going to have to look for an alternative to these straps.

    Now that I'm calm....

Looking back..I must have been quite a sight..

See, I live on a canyon in San Diego. The nearest hang spot is on a hill directly behind my house. I use a Blizzard Survival Tube for top and bottom cover. When the "Crap Straps" snapped I was encased in the tube.

    Here's how it went down-

    Snap- Crap strap failure
    Boom- Hit the ground
Roll- Me, ENO double nest, Blizzard tube, roll 15 feet down the hill
Crinkle- I try to get out
X!@%(#)$*- Me realizing i'm making no progress getting out
Sigh- me realizing i'm lying in the release cord
Whew- me crawling out 3 minutes after hitting the ground

I'l be posting on REI tonight

Big Dave, glad you weren't hurt. Gotta say though that your recap of the event had me laughing (with you, not at you).

I really like the ENO DN but one would think they would update their system for hanging it.
