has anyone ever used a Mexican hammock for camping, i want to use one that is large enough for myself and another. also does anyone know how large the tarp and bug net would have to be. I'm mot really too concerned about weight.
Thanks

I've brought one to camp with me. Does that count?
Tarp won't be much different in most cases. The hammocks are longer, but generally hung with plenty of sag. The overall length ends-up being pretty much what most 'campers' are when strung. Your netting OTOH, will need to be pretty massive. I have no idea how big and it will depend on the particular hammock involved, but you'll have a lot of real estate to cover with a bugnet.
What you should be asking yourself is "How am I going to get the tree straps high enough up the tree?". I think my shortest Mayan hammock is somewhere around 13' from connection loop to connection loop. Setting a comfortable sag means getting those straps up way high. You should practice alone first, so others don't hurt themselves laughing at, or with, you.
Trust nobody!
thanks cannibal, i was thinking that the netting would have to be huge. i had no idea that they were so long, i might have to use my truck as a ladder or toss a girl up on my shoulders after teaching her how to tie a knot or two haha
