Its been awhile since I've been up there, but we were able to camp out near the lake with no problems. (it was early spring, too cold for swimming)

Checking out http://www.nps.gov/cato/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htm
It looks like either at Owens Creek or the Adirondack shelters have potential, just need to get the permits taken care of.

Of course we could always just wander over to camp David and see if they'll let us use the lawn

I think I will stand a respectable distance away from you when you try that one Ive gotten close to the border there before and the shadows definitely made their presence known.

Hey Rook - welcome to the forum. I fell into hammocking sort of by accident as well - all I can say is welcome to the addiction!

I'm just outside Rockville, and would definitely be up for a group hang. Catcoctin/Cunningham would work fine for me as well.
