Kasuko, if you have problems finding what you need here in Canada, you can order it to be shipped to the border at Pigeon River, I can pick it up and then mail it to you Canada Post. I'm not far from the border and go quite often to get gas as it's about 35 cents/litre cheaper. The shipping to the border is almost nothing and I can't see it being very expensive to mail from me to you. Let me know if you want to do this and I'll send you the mailing address. On small orders like this, they don't bother charging duty when I cross over, it's too much paperwork for them.

When I first started my hammock journey, I was going to DIY my hammocks until I found that ordering stuff from existing vendors was more effective.

I found CTS Cargo Tiedown sells all varieties of webbing from 1" width on up. It is available by the foot and they will ship from what I recall.

You would then just need to sew your own loops and you'll be good to go.

I'ved used a 6 ft sling from PRINCESS AUTO . They had a good weight rating, have loops at both ends so lots of length options depending how you wrap around the tree. I never noticed any stretch but are an ugly yellow colour and less than $10.00.

i've checked the ratchet straps at canadain tire but they do not list what they are made of. they give the max load weight and break strength.

what load weight or break strength would be safe to use?

as far as MEC, i think everything they have is listed as nylon and since it is used for climbing, wouldn't it be designed to stretch in the event of a fall?
The climbing ropes have built in stretch but the webbing is static .

I got CTS to make my canoe tie down straps and my tree huggers. They'll sew the loops for next to nothing. I don't know about their shipping policy as I picked up from their store. It took them longer to write up the bill, than to make the straps.

    Edit:
They made me some 6' straps (2" eyes on each end) for about $6 each. I couldn't find anything pre-made for cheaper (including shipping to Toronto)... and I already had an errand very close by.

Scott is great about shipping costs - there is no jacking up of shipping fees that I have seen elsewhere. I have twice purchased 21 yards of fabric along with webbing and other stuff for as little as $12 in shipping fees to my location here in Montreal. On both occasions I received my order within one week. No complaints what so ever! It is worth remembering that Scott is a forum member as well. Check out his store items.

    Cheers

Hey everyone, Got a heads up about this thread and wanted to weigh in. I have looked at the shipping calculator on the back end of our site and tried to make some corrections to the webbing items. One thing to know is that we don't have a way of separating Canada from all the other international locations, postage from the US to Canada is less then other international destinations so it makes any overage in the shipping larger to Canada customers....sorry no way to fix that. But I think I have brought things down to a better level that will be closer to actual.

We have been aware of these errors in the shipping calculator for some time, and or normal way of handling it is to post a refund back to international customers once we get the actual shipping cost when we drop the order off at the post office. Unfortunately there is no way to estimate it exactly for each order. We do try and take care of our international friends though too.
