    I wouldn't worry about using a level. Just step back a ways and it's easy enough to eyeball. You might even find that you like the foot end higher than the head.

    Yep, foot end slightly higher than the head end. This is restoreative for your body, and more importantly...you won't keep slipping down in the hammock, and this will result in a more restful sleep period which is most important when restoring energy levels and conserving calories, which can be important for a survival situation, but more importantly when are putting in long days,high mileage on the trails

    So sorry, I used the word "important" so much...but it just made more sense that way.
