    New guy from eastern PA

    Hello everyone!

I've been perusing the forum for a little while, thought I should introduce myself and pronounce my "noobness".

I have been backpacking for over 30 years (off and on). Over the past several years I have been helping out as a leader with my son's Boy Scout troop, getting them started in backpacking among other things.

As I have gotten older, I have noticed that I am having a very difficult time getting any sleep on bp trips, so I thought I would give hammocks a try. I had a sizable REI dividend, so I am now the new owner of a HH expedition hammock--figured it would be good for starting out, and with the dividend it was basically "free".

Anyway, without even using the hammock yet I have already changed to a whoopie sling suspension for quicker set-up. I'm also considering zipper options (probably DIY--I'm good at sewing) and a bigger/lighter tarp setup.

Lots of good reading on these forums, and I look forward to participating!

Welcome! Hope to see you at PGF in April. I was just in your neck of the woods as a group of us did Wind Gap to Palmerton on the AT two weekends ago. Allentown was lit up well at night.
