    Suspension advice needed

    Hey folks,

I'm fed up with my slap straps and am going to change suspension systems. Only problem is I'm not sure which one to go with.

Should I go with whoopieslings and tree huggers?

    -Or-

Polypro straps and cinch buckles/decender rings?

    Any and all feedback appreciated!

    Thanks!

i'm in the same boat, i just ordered whoopie slings for whoopiesling.com today. and ordered polyester straps from strapworks.com to make my tree huggers with.

i don't like buckles, that's why i didn't go the other way, but that's just me

I have one hammock with whoopie slings and another with cinch buckles and straps. The whopies are lighter but i prefer the cinch buckles for ease of use.

    Hey WarEagle,

I have an ENO DN and ditched the slapstraps and heavy carabiner after the first over nighter.

After researching a bit, I went the whoopie sling route. Either way you go it will be a huge upgrade from the stock suspension. I find that I can setup up pretty quickly now. I also would recommend a structural ridgeline. This will eliminate any fiddling after the setup as you can always get a consistent sag.

Lastly, making your own whoopie slings/tree straps is a real easy DIY project and is pretty fun.

    Enjoy!

    DudeDowne,

When you swapped out the existing suspension for whoopies, did you take out the stock rope and loop the whoopies through the gathered end? Or did you just leave the stock rope on and loop the whoopies through that?

In my quest to go lighter, I am making my tree huggers out of amsteel and hanging my hammock like normal, but before I put weight on it I stick 7 or 8 short sticks under the amsteel huggers and they take the pressure off the suspension system. Work for me. I saw the suggestion somewhere on this forum. it works good.
Predictions are risky, especially when it comes to the future.

Don't fret friend, it's really, really simple, all it takes is 5 minutes and a pair of needle nose pliers. A dash of patients wouldn't hurt either.

Great suggestion Mule. May have to give that much more consideration for my ENO, but I fear someone may still cry foul.

I'll cast a vote for the webbing and cinch buckles. Easy to use and quick to set up. Not as light as whoopies, but that's ok with me since I'm not a backpacker. I had descender rings on my Trek Light double, but liked the cinch buckles that came with my WB Traveler so much, that I switched out the TL to chain link & cinch buckles from AHE.
