A member on here actually got a hold of corporate for Joann after much persistence and found out that the rip stop was 1.9. I made one of mine out of fabric I got from Joann's and it worked out great. I made mine in about an hour and had it hanging up shortly after. Do you know what you're doing for suspension?

All of the Hancock Ripstop I have bought weighjed in at 1.9 / oz but was not marked that way and the sales ladies don't know what the weight is... I measured 1 sy and weighed it came in at 1.9 for me and worked great for my hammock.
I like their 1.9 oz woodland camo RS but it's $7.99 unless you have a coupon.
Do you have a hammock already?
If you've never hammock camped (even in the back yard) give it a try. We know it is awesome yet some don't think so.
After that, there are a lot of designs and configurations. If you are willing to spend the money on a prototype go for it. However, some of the threads here also discuss the cost vs result of manufactured vs DIY; may I suggest reading a few. Hammock Bliss, Grand Trunk, WalMart Equip are in the $20 range and may include hanging hardware. Even though I've made several hammocks from the $1/yd stuff, not counting my time it is difficult to justify the cost / learning curve if you plan on making several of the same varity or are making a few different designs to find the one you're after.
Wow, that sounded discouraging. Seriously, making your own is the best and I find it well worth it even though I started with Trek Lights and Equips before making my own and totally lucked out in getting comercial ones that fit our needs very well.
Post some pics of your finished products, we love seeing others projects.
I have a roll of poly webbing from some other winter camping projects and I am ording up some Amsteel to make up a whoopie slings. From there I like the idea of a toggle to webbing which is what I will most likely start with...from there I am sure I will try every other variation under the sun.Do you know what you're doing for suspension?
Good to hear, I just got off the phone with Hancock. They have it in stock reg. price is 4.99 and they will honor the coupon I have from Mill-end for 60% off. That's a $1.99 a yard!! The bummer is they don't have any 100% poly thread. I will have to get that at Jo-ann which is fine because it is 40% off right now.All of the Hancock Ripstop I have bought weighjed in at 1.9 / oz but was not marked that way and the sales ladies don't know what the weight is... I have a Hennessey Explorer Zip that I got as a gift. I am going to be switching the suspension on that as well. I just like to tinker and make stuff. Hammock and Whoopie slings seemed like good projects. Hopefully a tarp soon after.Do you have a hammock already?

Good to hear you got a HH; everyone I've run into with them love em.
AND it sounds like you've already been DIYing with stuff too.
Looking forward to seeing the results.
I snagged some ripstop at the Joann's in Roseville last weekend for 50% off. Not sure if that sale is going on still.
I made my DIY out of Joann's ripstop and it's holding up fine. A little crinkly, mind you, but just fine.
