    First hammock build...questions

I am getting ready to make a hammock based on JustJeff's directions on his site and I had a few questions about materials.

I can get 1.9oz. black ripstop locally for 3.99 a yard. It is a 60" wide roll. Is this a fair price and will it be strong enough and wide enough or should I try to find something wider?

    I am 6'0 tall and 250lbs

I was also wondering what is the best thread for a project like this? Gutterman 100% Poly?

Thanks for your help in advance!!

Thats a good deal, but if you have a local walmart you might get lucky in the $1 pr yd. bin, 60" is wide enough, and 1.9 oz will hold your weight. Gutterman 100% poly is what I use now, but the 100% poly thread at joanns will work too.

    Joanns fabric

Don't pay full price at Joann's. If you want to buy locally instead of from one of the vendors on this site, make sure you use a 40% coupon from Joann's. You can sign up for deals on their website and you can try just going by the store and they have coupons they give out from time to time.

You can always find Hancock Fabric and Joanns Fabric coupons for 40 -50% off. Some locations will accept coupons for the other. I have used Joann coupons at my Hancock Fabric.

    With coupon I pay $2.50 / yd
    1.9 is strong enough
    60" is wide enough
Guttermans poly is what you want

    Thanks guys!!

I checked the Walmart last night and they no longer have the fabric/sewing dept at my local wally world.

As for Joanne/Hancock I didn't want to wait for their next coupon to come out but maybe i will do a seach quick to see if something comes up.

I don't think you're going to find anything cheaper than the $4.00 a yard you have found already. Where locally did you find it? Good luck on your hammock.

I found some great coupons for Hancock and Joanne's. How do I know if the fabric they have is 1.9 oz? It does't give any indication online.

    Thanks,
    Chad

Fronkey: Rochford Supply has Black 60" wide 1.9 ripstop in stock for $3.99yd

I found a 60% off coupon from Mill End online, might check that out. I think Hancock and Joanne accept competitors coupons.

Here is what I found at Jo-ann
    http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/p...DID=xprd560961

Edit: I guess the 64 GSM converts to 1.89 oz

    and at Hancock
    http://www.hancockfabrics.com/Black-...VVviewprod.htm

How do I know if either of these are suitable materials to make a hammock out of?

    Thanks,
    Chad
