    Two Foot Boxes

I'm really itching to make my own hammock. I've got a nice DIY from the tableclothfactory, that I really like, but I like the integrated bug net on Papasmurf's Dangerbird. I will hopefully get some "no-see-um" fabric for fathers day, and will try and make a similar system on my tablecloth. (that just sounds funny don't it) any way this got me to thinking about a total custom build with foot boxes, bug net, and shelves etc... The problem is that I switch sides at night. Here comes the question... Wait for it ......

What would happen if you made two foot boxes? One set up for each side. When your feet were not in one it could be used as storage. (got to thank Shug for that idea, from his warbonnet video) Would this cause a bad lay or ridge in the center of the hammock. Just an idea, thought I would throw it out and see where it lands.

The way my feet smell, if I did that I'd never wake up!

True footboxes (WBBB style) shorten up one edge of the hammock and make it tight. If you sit on that edge, it will probably rip. Therein lies the delimna of two footboxes.

You can make Knotty's stretch sides on both sides of the hammock. You can also put Hangnout's shockcord footboxes on both sides. Sorry I can't post links on my phone. Maybe someone else will.

i thought that someone had tried it only that they incorporated some type of line into the rolled hem of the hammock to keep it from ripping out. zing-it, amsteel, mule tape? maybe. can't seem to remember who it was though...

Hummmm... Now that's a thought. You're certainly not going to pop a hem made of Amsteel. It may not be comfortable sitting on the edge, but that can be overcome by not sitting on the edge

Because I flip flop and also like to hang a foot out, or both feet...sometimes even my head Footboxes aren't going to work for me, nor the sewn in bugnets. I just don't like the restrictions/limitations. That's just my preference. It will be interesting to see what you come up with or if you decide to just do the stretchy MOD on both sides.

It might be a bit difficult to get out of though...at least for us "old" folks.

Sounds intriguing. The ripping is what I would be concerned with. Dual Knotty mods seem to be a good idea. I'm extremely interested to see how this turns out. Pictures would be appreciated.

And welcome to HF from a little south and west of you!
