    Question What about the Dogs?

I have been kind of poking around for sometime now but have not been able to find a post about dogs. My dog Scotch goes everywhere with me. However I am not sure how that would work if I were sleeping a hammock. Do any of you take your dogs on hammock tips? If so how do you handle issue of bugs and shelter? Any help would be great.

I've taken my golden retriever on a few hikes. The best method that I've found so far has been to take along an appropriately sized permethrin-treated CCF pad to place on the ground under the hammock. She seems quite content to sleep on the pad, and I connect her leash to one of the support trees to prevent any wandering temptations.

I am taking my dog on my thur this year, and have this has been the most difficult issue. He can lay with me in a double wide hammock. The only problem is that when I get in it, he slides to the lowest point, and isn't very comfy for both of us. Aother thing I have tried is to have him lay on my chest and hips, and have his head on my chest or on the side of the hammock. I am still working on this. I eventually broke down, and will be getting a Tarptent Contrail for him. I know it is big and expensive for just a dog, but it only weighs 24 oz and he will carry it. I may send it home during the warmer part of my hike, but I want something to keep him from the wind and rain.

So it really depends on the dog if he sleeps in a hammock with you. Every time you move, he will move. If you shift in the hammock, he will slide down and make it very hard to get situated. So my opinion would be a pad during the warmer months, and maybe a small tarptent or something for the cold months.

Someone posted a picture of a dog in a hammock, between it's masters legs, with its head sticking out of the head hole of a JRB No Sniveler.

My dog will sleep in my hammock-great for extra heat in the winter, but it's hard to get comfortable. I prefer to use a pad and small fleece blanket(if its cold) for my dog.

That's exactly how m dog was laying on me in the hammock. Now just imagine that dog weighing 40 lbs. It's actually pretty comfy, and very warm.
