For most places I go, I use the stakes I bought on the Hammock Forum store. They are the same as the MSR Groundhogs. (support the forum). For really hard ground, it's the steel nail type Walmart stakes. I have a few of the bulky plastic jobs and notice they hold well in soft ground.

I have been using. aluminum gutter spikes I picked up at Lowes. I have used the "Y" type stakes, like the MSR Groundhogs, and they are fine, but the gutter spikes do just fine and are lighter.

A mix of MSR Groundhogs and MSR Needles. I also have some snow stakes for winter and a few homemade snow anchors.

I found these at Home Depot Friday. They measure 16" long and are pretty heavy duty. They are for tying down party tents. I built a quick setup stand that I am going to try these stakes with.
