Whipping line

Just started a DIY hammock project. Many thanks to all the great contributions here on this forum...this place is about as close to a model of helpfulness/sharing and civility that I have found on the net.

At any rate, I used 1.1 oz ripstop, hemmed up sides and ends, and whipped the ends using the W method ala Just Jeff's site.

I used ~1.5mm diameter line that I had hanging around. My concern is that this may be too thin and the thinness will wear on the nylon over time. I plan on using the hammock for an AT thru this year, so weight is a concern (hence the 1.1 oz ripstop), but also would hate to re-whip and lose length on the hammock should there be excessive wear.

Is my concern weenie?

The whipping could actually be done with even smaller cord, you don't actually hang from the whipping cord, it just binds everything together. There should not be any wear and tear on the whipping cord point and if done securely the suspension should not have the ability to move and cause wear either.

Actually, now that I think about it, folks are using 2mm dynaglide for whoopie slings, which I believe are being wrapped directly around the nylon by some?

Absolutely, That's what I hang from most of the time 1.8mm

I use zip-ties. works for me.

I use mason line. Works fine.
