I'm pretty sure in Canada the lumber is treated with the same stuff as in the USA.

    Mr JJ.

Many thanks for PDF of design.

Followed your design and am grateful for the plans and pleased with the result. Already did a test hang with a tarp in the rain.

I just finished making the stand and thanks to to the PDF from JJ it took less than 2 hours. Nice and solid stand my friend!

I'm going to do a test hang tonight. I'm curious though: for those of you who are using this or a similar stand, how did you attach your suspension to the eye bolts? I have an eno doublenest with whoopies. What do you think would be the best method? Thanks!

You could larks head your tree straps to the eyebolts, then use a toggle & marlin spike hitch to attach your whoopies. Or if your whoopies are long enough, you could use a carabiner to connect them straight to the eyebolts.

I have a question and if it is a stupid question I apologize in advance. But first, thanks to jjthedog and triton for the plans and the video. Both are fantastic.

Okay, the question. I want to use this for a large Mayan hammock that will measure 13 feet long (or so). I am concerned that with the sag, the hammock will brush the two support pieces that connect the masts (I think that's the term you are using) to the base. Am I wrong? And if I am right, would I just make the base longer and add the third leg for support?

Thanks as always. Hammockforums is the best!

You might be right on that one. I would think it would be to long and would hang down to low but I have no experience on this kind of hammock. Just warmed up to 62 today in Mi. Getting the stand out of the barn today can't wait.

I don't have any experience with that type of hammock either, but I measured about halfway down the braces (where it looks like it would be most likely to be an issue) and there is 70" of clearance. I suppose you could use 10' 2x4's instead of 8' & use the third leg like you said, if you think you'll need more room. I don't know how stretching it will effect the hang. The masts may need to be more vertical?

I am new to hammock camping, but an old goat backpacker in general. I just received my new hammock bliss with bug netting and rain fly. I tested it out in the back yard on a makeshift suspension. I used a single ridge line, between two trees, and attached my hammock to the ridge using prussick knots. The hammock was great. My suspension really wasn't very good. Can't wait for the straps and slings to come in. My point is I will be building one of these stands for future backyard test runs. Thanks for the design.

Thanks for the input. I think I will go with the 10' and if I seem to have plenty of room, just pull them off and cut them down. As my dad used to say, "measure twice...you can shorten a board, but you can't grow one." It'll be a few weeks, but I'll post here how it goes.
