Is's complicated, new pack, UQ, TQ, and Jerry chair

I learned a long time ago that the real secret to getting your pack weight down is to look at your gear as a system. Every piece interacts with the other pieces in some fashion, even if it's just competing for pack space.

New technology .... So time for some new gear, which means time for a new system.

I'm working on a new baby orca clone using a piece of brown momentum I had laying around, a new lower volume pack, a new IX TQ is on the drawing board, and I really like the Jerry chair design, so I see one of those on the thread injector too soon.

New UQ hit 8.5 ounces before shock cord, and is almost finished.

The new pack is a hybrid design between a ULA conduit and a MLD super prophet. Body is 1600 cu in with a cavernous mesh pocket. Looking at a lid design now.

The new TQ is slated at 10 oz, plus or minus. Well see how that works out.

Can't decide on the chair material ... It needs to be at least three in one, chair, cover, and gear hammock .... But I've read that SIL is too slippery for chair use ......

Anyway ..... Pictures as I finish the projects ....

The overall goal is to get below 6 lbs .... Which I consider SUL for a big guy like myself ..... After all, numbers are arbitrary, right?

I'm not sure. I don't have a scale that will measure it. Do you?

You could use Sil and leave a couple holder pockets to fit your pack/sit/foot pad between so slipping would be a non-issue and you can use whatever lightweight material you want.. just a thought, I think Rip Waverly may have done this to his.. I have the idea in my head for some reason but I know it's not mine

    Well .... I've been a tread injectin' fool ......

I finished up two more packs, but I don't love either anywhere near as much as my conduit ...... Ummmmmmm thinking of going a different direction.

TQ .... Two layers of IX with 3/8 inch radial pleats on one layer. Olive green 1.1 oz cover on both sides, and two layers of 18 inches of 2.5 oz xp in the footbox only, with no IX in that area .... Sewn up 18 inches. Seems warmmmmmmm. 13.9 oz, 78 x 53 tapering to 30 inches. no drawcords. No condensation for this boy.

UQ .... Two layers of IX with a torso heater, coyote brown momentum covering. 9 oz with end channels and shock cord.

Now can someone refresh my memory on how to post pictures?

I like your philosophy, Captn. I like being able to switch out elements of my kit to go as light as possible for the place and conditions I'm hiking.

What do you figure your comfort rating will be with the UL top quilt and under quilt you mentioned? Can you give more details on how you made quilts so light? Thanks!!! Can't wait to see pictures of the whole kit.

Oh...I just read your post about the quilts. Never mind!!! (Still want to see pictures though!)

I'm targeting 40 degrees for the UQ and TQ. Based on others experiences freezing is probably a lower limit before the chill gets too much.

My super shelter was around 15 ounces and my golite TQ 21 oz, still a good setup, however, mix and match below 20, although my idea of fun under 20 degrees usually involves room service.

23 oz vs 36 oz, about 3/4 of a pound. I salvaged some failed projects and leftovers from old projects, so I'm really out the cost 7 yards of insultex, shock cord, and some thread.

A Jerry chair is up next I think ......

Pics to come .... Battery should be about charged by now.
