    Hello from MD

I have been stalking this site for the past several months learning a great deal. I decided it was just time to join and become a member. I am new to hammocking, but have been backpacking and camping for years. I have found the transition quite enjoyable and look forward to learning more and getting to know some local hangers.

I really appreciate all the help and community that is provided on this forum and hope to be able to add to it in the near future.

After reading the sticky about members wanting to know why we decided to start hammocking. I was in Guatemala about 14 years ago and sleeping in a hammock is quite popular there. I spent several nights in a hammock and loved it so much that I purchased a cheap on made of twine while I was there. I brought it back with me and slept out in the yard from time to time. Recently I was given a gift card to REI, and being as I already have all the equipment I need for backpacking and camping I decided to try something new. I bought an ENO hamoock and started doing a bit of research on the subject. I was disappointed by the offerings that ENO had in its product line and decided to get a WBBB recently.

    Thank you,

    Justin M. Decker

    Welcome!

I'm out Western Maryland and head out for hangs in Green Ridge State Forest, SNP and the AT from Harpers Ferry quite often. I'm looking into a trip in May/June at New Germany/Savage River trail systems that I just heard about. If you ever want to get together for a short trip, drop me a note with some advance and I'll work something out.

Welcome aboard. The Mid Atlantic Hammock Hangers Association (MAHHA) has a group hang at Crampton Gap every Spring and Fall, however this Spring it's being moved to PA. Just search MAHHA for more info. The event is always well attended and lots of fun.

Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Welcome aboard Jollyllama. I'm in Harford County.

Deucallion: I go out to Greenridge at least 2-3 times a year. Love it there. That would be a great place for a group hang!

Another MD hanger here. I've never been to Greenridge, so let me know if you guys are ever planning to head out there.

I was just north of Harpers Ferry on the AT a few weeks ago. Nice and cold. Expected there to be no one out there but we ran into 20 undergrads from UMD in a "wilderness leadership" class. Pretty cool group of people.

I would be up for getting a trip together in April if anyone is down. Maybe something local on the AT for a weekend? PA... Shenandoah...?

I see some folks are in Baltimore, I live in canton. Anyone close by?

Glad to have another Marylander here. I am on the western shore about half way between the big cities.

Knotty: Thanks for the tip on the MAHHA. I didn't know they existed
