    Top Quilt or Under Quilt

    Hi ya’ll,

I know have a lot of down to play with and need some DYI advice. I have never made anything with a thread injector and was wondering if I should start with a UO or TQ. I was also wondering which set of instructions would you recommend for a newbie? Thanks for the help.

I'd recommend starting with something less complex so you can get a feel for your skill and comfort level with the TI before tackling either a down TQ or UQ.
    Maybe one of these:

After a project or two you should be in a much better position to evaluate your options on the TQ or UQ front.

You do need to get some time on the machine first. Might want to try making some stuff sacks. As far as the UQ or TQ. The UQ is an easier project. Not as many baffles to sew and the sizing isn't quite as critical.

My first project was a hammock, my second was my banana yellow Blackcat I still use today. You have to remember to go slow and plan everything out or you will learn to hate the seam ripper. Actually even with a good plan i still hate the seam ripper. What helped me a lot was a video Ramblin Rev did. He said not to focus on the needle but tho focus on aligning the fabric with a fixed point on the machine (or something like that). That for me made all the difference.

It seems like alot of people start with stuff sacks and I think this is good advise. I also would try to make a black bishop bag for my hammock and some snake skins for my tarp before trying a quilt. Practice your seams and hemming and get good at those two things and your projects will be cake.
+1 on hate of a seams ripper, and down will always find those litte holes to escape.

+1 for stuff sacks as a start. Also, do not start off with silnylon. Too slippery to learn on.
