I used this knot extensively this past weekend while taking a Wilderness First Aid course. We were making a lot of improvised splints and this knot worked great for that.

I used DuctTape's variation with a single figure-eight knot. (I originally tried using two but the first one never got near the stopper so I found it unnecessary.)

Great knot thanks for the heads up Rug!

I've been playing with this knot all weekend. It's been great for 'lassoing' the kids... I'm going to teach each of them how to tie it.

This looks like nothing more than a simple slip-knot with an overhand knot as a stopper.

It looks like a slip knot backed up with an overhand knot because it is a simple overhand knot used as a noose with an overhand stopper. I'd say the combination appears to work well together. I'm going to have to try this out in the field a few times to see how it works and decide if I'll add it to my repertoire.

Of course, the elegant apine knot (butterfly knot, pioneering knot, alpine butterfly) is essentially a pair of intertwined overhand knots, but that doesn't reduce its effectiveness.

I've been using this knot all over the place at home, tying up things that want to go "sproing", lashed some hiking poles together to make a tripod, that worked really well. I am loving this knot!
    Good luck,

The best way to understand this knot is to watch carefully, then
try it out. This was a new knot to me, so that's what I did because I didn't "get it" just watching the video.

Remarkably, that overhand knot through which you put the standing end "moves" down the cord when under tension until it hits the stopper. Even more remarkably, fiddling with the stopper when not under tension loosens it all up.

This is a really useful knot.

Being a fishierman I use this knot a lot. What I did not realize is that it can be loosened back up. We never do that when using it to tie line to a reel.

I believe that was the gist of the remainder of my post you didn't quote. How you tie it is to create an overhand knot as a noose and add an overhand stopper. Its behavior is more than the sum of the parts. Definitely one I'm going to try out and add to the repertoire.
