    WTB: signal mirror

Looking for a signal mirror that is light weight, can also be used for personal grooming, and works. (I've read that some sighting mirror knock-offs actually don't work.)

But is it Memorex, or the real thing?

Here's what I was worried about.

I picked up a colhgans or was it coleman mirror from sports authority in the camping section. Great mirror used it over the weekend to put in my contacts and weighs 0.6oz I believe.

Based on the article it looks like RP's suggestion of the Coghlans mirror is a safe choice. Made in Japan and not one of the dubious Taiwanese versions.

I originally used a metal one from Rothco and it was terrible at best. The new one I got actually functions as a mirror and is some sort of plastic composite.

I just wanted to thank you for posting the link, that's a very useful bit of info on a piece of gear your life might depend on.

    Thumbs up

+1 on the Rescue Flash. There are three styles out there though. Make sure you do not get the style that looks like a mirror incased in a polycarbonate shell like this one. Water gets inside and ruines them.

The one I use is the standard Rescue Flash below

There is a mini version that is very compact, and light, but I have never seen where you can purchase it separately without getting an entire AMK survival kit.

In an emergency situation, I think that the Rescue Flash will be more reliable than a glass mirror as it won't crack or break. Even if it got scratched up, it would still work.
