i've been here since Christmas '07. when i load all my gear in the trunk for a hang, it is worth more then my Ford Focus. and if i am towing the kayak trailer also, add another Ford Focus.
but there is an end in sight. i mean what else could they come up with that i would need to buy?

Great, mega82 made me realize what I just got myself into.

They sure will be mad when the new WBBB get here and there not pink like I told them.

I have a feeling I'll be buying from Arrowhead for the flamethrower UQ's (in pink)
    Yea, I'm hosed...and I hosed my family.
I started last summer with 4 Trek light doubles (1 each right?)
Then came the 4 tyvek tarps and 4 sets of treking poles.
Can't hang with out 4 new sets of suspension and biners.
Oh, and 4 new packs because the old ones were too big & heavy now.
And we got to get all new sleeping bags because the old ones are too ____ (insert whatever makes me feel less guilty)
Lets DIY 4 heiny pot systems, and 4 loaner hammocks and 4 loaner suspension systems, and build a 4 pole tensegrity stand (under construction) and buy 4 new GG 12X12 tarps (sould be here tonight)

(comercial line) but wait, there's more...
And now my family is starting to get into this and the loaners converted our family friends.

The problem with hammocking is it appears to be affordable (compared to boats and summit racing catalog) but there's always one more thing. Then there's this great group of people who cheer you on to the point where there is more junk in the trunk than the car is worth.

If there is a new member reading this...I was going to write a warning but its already too late for you!

It has been painful ....but I have not spent a cent in the last 3 months on hammock gear. Tax audit and new temporary budget.......
I need nothing as I have two of most stuff. But the urge is strong.

These pics are of a 3 day / 2 night trip last weekend. Here you can see most of my gear for Czech Republic.
This contains the 3x3 meter tarp from ddhammocks, the ticketothemoon hammock, and diy underquilt from an old sleeping bag based on the instructions on this forum. Later on when finished i will make some foto report and post it online.
The DIY underquilt needs some elastic seems on the ends, but further it is all good.
Also for the tree's i will use webbing, it finally arrived by mail yesterday.

THAT's why I got hooked on hammocking

Way to go, the reason I need to buy more hammock stuff. I'd like to see a ground dweller try and camp there with views like that; Not gonna happen!

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

once you have acquired the hammock, it is as expensive as you let it be- HYOH, YMMV etc- no one is exactly the same in their comfort level, exertion level, travel time available, other interests, family obligations, yadda, yadda, yadda...
for those with lots of time and little money; 1$/yd fabric can be had, and sewing machines -while nice- are not required, only needle and good thread. (did I say LOTS of time?)
for those with lots of money and little time, cottage gear makers can/will provide.
these two cases can be considered the endpoints of a spectrum of involvement/purchasing considerations.
happy hanging to you all, and to all a good night's rest! KM

"temporary budget" usually means wifey put the family jewels in a vise and said 'spend and i squash'.
