    Question about D.I.Y. Hammock stitch

I just have a quick question about making a hammock yourself.
Generally Nylon comes in around 50-60" wide by however many yards long, and most "double" size hammocks are 6 feet wide.

My question is, what type of stitch would you use to connect the nylon together to make it wide enough to be a double hammock?

I think you may be asking about a seam rather than a stitch. The seam I would use would be a flat felled seam, very strong. There are lots of examples on the web.

The stitch used is just a standard running stitch, nothing special.

Page 7 of this link shows an easier (for me a sewing noob) strong seam. This is the one I am using on my tarp.

    Best of luck.

Thank you to both of you!

I think the Flat felled seam is what I'm looking for.
But that leaves me with a new question.

How do you connect it when there's 6 individual pieces and a possible 5 seams?
By this I mean 2 main body pieces (consisting of an upper and a lower) measuring 36"W x 68"L each, and 2 side pieces (per 1 main body piece) measuring 18"W x 68"L.
    For a rectangle of:
    [18"W x 68"L][36"W x 68"L][18"W x 68"L]
    [18"W x 68"L][36"W x 68"L][18"W x 68"L]

If you use a Flat felled seam, connecting the two sides to the main body going from North to South of the hammock, what would you use to connect the individual sides and main body pieces together?

This may sound confusing, but I've tried to explain it in the best way I could.

Edit: Disregard the previous question. If I Flat Fell the horizontal seams and then the vertical seams, it should take care of it. Thanks again!

You got the order of construction right, but you might want to reconsider having a seam running across the middle, side to side.

Your rear end is going to be putting most of your weight right on that seam. If you could find some material that was one piece, longways, it would be much stronger.

If you build it as you described, I'd be cautious of falling though the middle. Don't hang it too high and maybe put some padding on the ground.

Hmm, the way I worked it out, I was going by ordering the material by single yards. My bad.
