Other no-sew option is to use a plain strap (no loops) and attach it to the tree with a round turn and two half hitches or to use the 4-wrap knot.

    Thumbs up

AngrySparrow is leading you down the right path Jim Bowie. That's exactly how I would do it.
We'll I might use the OWF woodland green camo webbing instead but you'd have to sew the loops.

These carabiners are probably the best deal when you consider weight, price, and strength. They had them in polished color recently but not right now.

These are even lighter and cheaper but are not climber rated strength. Still plenty strong enough. http://www.shop.treklightonline.com/...4&productId=32

Before I get any more PM's about this - I don't claim that the method above is either the best, simplest, cheapest, lightest, or easiest way for replacing the suspension. It is only represented as A WAY to replace it. Jim Bowie asked for a way to change the suspension, so I answered. Period.
Worked for me, per AngrySparrow's and others helpful tips. I also started out just connecting the stock HH UL Explorer 1600 lb rope to the cinch buckle, which worked OK. But I ended up going AS's way, because I couldn't bring myself to cut the stock rope! So, I untied it and replaced it with a much shorter piece of the Spiderline. And then some webbing and a cinch buckle. It's always worked great with zero slipping.

I have also used the Hitchcraft device and also the Nylon Cleat from something or other Marine, with my stock HH UL Explorer rope. This required no alterations and works great, though some worry about the weight rating ( 200 lbs safe working load, - higher break rating I think) of the nylon cleat. I used one for a week ( 204 lbs) with zero trouble. I also tie an extra "safety" loop when I use it, as a back up.

These solve most of the HH connection complaints and require no alterations.

Yes, HOI, I have been using that suggestion from you (a round turn and two half hitches), recently with my absolutely stock Speer while I have been testing my PeaPod. Works fantastic! It is now one of my favorite techniques. Thanks for the tip.

Don't forget the Gard Hitch with a couple of suspension rings as a completely stock, simple and easy solution (IMHO).

Try this thread for explanations and pics:

Thanks Jim Bowie for posting this. I was looking for a noobie thread like this too.
I'm liking angrysparrow's method, and kinda deciding between it and the hitchcraft gadget.
On angrysparrow's method, how does the other end of the strap look?

Last question. Anyone some good stores for the supplies located in Canada?

Welcome to the site. Glad you found us. The strap from Strapworks will come as one long strap with loops sewn in both ends. You'd then just cut it in half.
Contact Turk. I'm sure he could help. www.hammockforums.net/forum/member.php?u=137
