I make these for many of my newly converted hangers. You can hook the biner to a rope on the hammock or webbing on a Claytor hammock. With webbing going from the cinch buckle to the tree you have easy adjustments. This is not my idea, of course, but I like it and share these with many. Mule

    Cut in half?
I guess the question is, do you still use the tree huggers, or I guess you can do it like bmike did a few posts above with the carabiner.

No tree huggers needed. I burned mine way back. I hate those things.
All your doing is threading the webbing through the cinch buckle. Then you attach the carabiner to the loop in the end of the webbing. Wrap around the tree and click onto the webbing. What kind of hammock are you using?

The strap from Strapworks is not used as a long tree hugger. After cutting it in half, you use each piece on the ends of your hammock.

You absolutely can just get one long sling and cut it in half. But, for the very minimal cost difference, I would get two shorter ones each with loops sewn in both ends. That only adds a miniscule weight penalty, but gives you good insurance if something happened to the stitching on one of your loops.

That really sounds like a good idea.

One of my straps ( 1500 lb polyester, the dreaded bright yellow one) came from a Harbor Freight strap where I cut the hook off. That is an ultra cheap, convenient and effective way to go, especially NOW ( not then!) there is a Harbor Freight in town. But, you just have a loop on one end, plus you are stuck with the bright yellow. Though that didn't really bother me. But I like that idea of a loop on both ends for back-up!

Yea, I kinda think that the above statement is the safest for me. I would not want to have the original knot compromised in any way. You can make it look just as neat and be done with it. I was never good at knots anyway. Rowmin Goat. This has been alot of help to me and I will order the material as soon as I can get the length figured. I do have a question. Why do you need loops on both ends of the straps? I know you need it on the tree side but the buckle end to me seems unneccessary. I am cheap and could buy just one long strap and cut it in half. I am new at this thinking and may have not figured this right so set me straight. Rowmin Goat...
