well, using triangle buckles means i really "don't" have to tie a knot, but i still back up that piece of equipment with a slippery half hitch. if it's the only means of holding up your hammock i don't recommend it...

I use marlin spike hitches in my tree straps and slide my homemade whoopie slings over the marlin spike hitches.
For my tarp, I use a continuous ridge line with two alpine butterfly loops (non-slipping mid-line loops) located just outside the center of the ridge line that the tarp occupies. I use these alpine butterfly loops as the first half of trucker's hitches to the trees. I finish the trucker's hitches with two slippery half hitches. The trucker's hitches create a triangle for my hammock's suspension to pass through.
All the knots are very dependable and pull out with just a tug (except the alpine butterflies--which I leave permanently set.) Hope this helps!!! Sounds complicated when you write it all out!

The Hennessy figure eight lashing is easy once you've tried it and can always be released no matter how heavily loaded.

+1 for msh with toggles and whoopies on my wbbb and grand trunk ul. easy to release! :-)
on my hennessy i use a garda hitch on the line and a biner on the tree huggers. i did the figure eight before that. planning to do a whoopie conversion one day.
on my tarp rl i use a grapple hitch. since my last trip i started using exped 'self tensioners (a knot bone). they are attached to the ridge line w/ grapple hitches too.
Marlin spike for the tree straps and the tautline hitch for the tarp.

knots that I like for hammocking that are easy to undo and don't slip
strap around tree: round turn and two half hitches, second hitch a slipped hitch generally but not necessarily; or a sewn loop on the end of the strap and feed other end through the loop
line to ring: buntline hitch
strap to ring: girth hitch - easy to adjust and untie - loosen by pushing the strap into the ring
line loop (WS) to strap: marlinspike hitch
line to stake (tarp tie outs): wrap line around spike about 10 times - note I use gutter spikes for stakes that have a rough surface, also other end of line is attached to tarp with a tautline hitch for adjustments (generally left in place so no need to untie)
Just the standard ones not the ones with the clips.
