Took a trip with the Arizona Backpacking Club up to Coyote Gulch and Bryce Canyon from March 25th to the 27th.
I was nervous about finding a hanging spot at Coyote Gulch after reading that there are generally slim pickin's, but I couldn't stand leaving the hammock at home. The other hangers in the group decided to only bring their ground gear, and I brought a ground cloth in case I wasn't able to hang. Once you drop down into the canyon, you start passing camping spots about every half-mile or less. Many of the sites have plenty of trees for a couple of hangers per site, sometimes more, you just have to get a little creative.I found myself a spot where I could set up with my tarp blocking the wind, and life was very good indeed.
Hiked in from the Hurricane Wash TH on Friday. About 8 miles to camp just beyond Jacob Hamblin Arch. Dayhiked to the Escalante River and back to camp on Saturday, then decided to hike all the way out and stay in Escalante. So, that was 21.4 miles on Saturday, ouch... I was feeling that for 2 days after. Sunday morning we headed to Bryce Canyon and checked out the fresh snow-covered views. Awesome trip!
