Question about makig Underquilts from sleepingbags

Tomorrow I am making 2 underquilts by modifying a sleeping bag using the instructions from Creative Kayt http://www.youtube.com/user/creative.../0/OWP7dmvTszk

The sleeping bag I have measures 38(folded) by 81. My husband and I are short (5'3" and 5'7") but hefty! We have an eno doublenest and a jacks-r-better bear mountain bridge.

Do you think we would be better off cutting the hammock like she did so that we will have 2 quilts of roughly 38 * 81 or the other way and having quilts of roughly 40 * 76? (I assume wider is better)

    Thanks for your thoughts.

I have thought about this project, but have not made any UQ so take this with a grain of salt.
    I would go wider.
If you look at the UQ comparison sticky, there are some UQs around 40 inches wide, none more narrow.
    Most are about 45"
    Good luck with your project

Went with a 3/4 length and wider to go around my shoulders when I did my mod.

I like the wider option for sleeping cross wise in the hammock. It will give you better coverage for your shoulders and feet. But that's just my opinion.
