Proud Auntie - Trail Name Needed

    Hi all!

I was so proud last night... My 15 year-old nephew spent the night at my house yesterday and rather than sleeping in the guest bedroom, he insisted on sleeping outside in my hammock, and he plans to sleep out in the yard tonight too!

I know what he's getting for his next gift

Anyway, I am considering creating an account for him, but he doesn't have a trail name - We're open to suggestions!

It may help to know that he is a proud member of the Navy Junior ROTC program at his school. The funniest thing about him is that he loves to wear This Green Madbomber Hat.

It's the funniest thing. When he comes home from school the first thing he does is put on his ratty pajamas and the hat, and then proceeds to play video games. But we live in Southern California nowhere near the snow I tell him he looks like that Gaear Grimsrud kidnapper character from Fargo, but he doesn't care...

PS - My pet name for him is Monkin, but I am not sure he would appreciate that as a trail name Or maybe I should just wait 'till we can go camping and wait from something funny to happen.

    Hammock bomber. Jammie bomber.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

since trail names are traditionally acquired on the trail- I vote for plan B.(funny camping story)
Note that this will not stop him from joining the forum; as screen names are plentiful and varied...

I will have to second this thought.

My daughter received her hammock for Christmas '09 and slept out in the backyard with me a few nights. She wanted a trailname but I explained that trail names are earned out on the trail, not in the backyard. Well, this obviously infuriated her that she insisted on going backpacking with me, how could I turn that down? Weekend trip on the Foothills Trail and she was all in the creeks looking for salamanders, critters, bugs . . .etc. Then she spilled her dinner while sitting with me under my tarp and told me she was trying to bring the critters to her because she was tired of having to find them.

    Hence forth . . . "Bugbait" . . . a trail name was earned.

and yes, she does have a HF account and is very proud about that.

This will be a great motivator to get your nephew out on the trail with you and experience the Great Outdoors.

I agree about a Trailname coming from the trail. Get him on HF with any old handle. When/if his true name finds him, just tell him to let a mod know and we can change his username to his Trailname (assuming it isn't already taken).

P.S. Wait till he is good and asleep tonight out in the hammock, then go scare the crud out of him. My money says you'll have a trailname soon after.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions guys I will create a screen name for him, but I think y'all are right - we will wait 'till he gets outdoors to find his trail name. Meanwhile I may sign him up as hammock bomber or gear monkey or something similar for the forums.
