    sewing a double layer hammock

How do I do this properly? I haven't started yet. Here are my 2 thoughts...
    First:
Sew the 4x10 up, then put another layer that is a 4x10 and sew it to the top layer leaving an opening on each end to slip a pad in.
    Second:
Sew 2 pieces at the same time (tricky?).

    Suggestions? Links?

I'm thinking I'll sew around three sides then turn it inside-out so that the finished edges are on the outside. Any other (better?) ideas solicited...

    What I did with mine.
Hemmed up a 60x 120 used it for a few months.

    sewed up another same size.

Sewed together across the ends and along the middle of the sides as per Risk's direction, referenced in a prior post in this thread.

After some use. I found it awkward to load my pad , so I cut the top to bottom stitching on one side. This made it much easier to load the pad. A bit of care has to be taken now, to keep the top and bottom layers aligned.

I used the HH folding pattern that the BMW guy discovered and I think Head Change 4You documented (I'm sure someone did) . It seems to make things a bit flatter in the center.

    Hope this helps
    Tom

I use the double sheet bend knot to fasten the end lines.

I would recommend doing it by the Rsik method. The last two zhammocks I made, I roll hemmed the sides first, and some how the two pieces that were once the same size became two. My inner layer some how became about two inches shorter than my outer layer. I made it work, but I was dumbfounded as to how this could had happened.

I would take one piece of fabric four or five feet wide and 24 feet long and sew roll hems around the whole thing, double it over one time. Sew the roll hems together on the one long side and two ends. This leaves one long side open.
Now lay out the finished double layer which is not say, 4 x 12.
Double over the fabric lenghwise now. Now you have a 2 x 12. Gather and loosly tie with a wire tie each end, but as you do each end, gather and tie, then pull out about four inches of the outside edges and tighten the wire tie. Now take a piece of spectra rope about 3 feel long and tie one end of the hammock with it using a double sheet bend. Tie a figure 8 in the end of the rope making a loop.
Do the same to the other side.
Put on a Biner and hang out.
Check out my double layer I finished last week.

As you can see I put a tunnel on each end and ran a length of webbing through like a Claytor, but I had it tied in a double sheet bend for month before I re did it. Mule

skskinner, I like you idea. I think by having just one big piece and folding it over on its self is a good, simple idea. Although I think that I would roll whip thge ends like a HH, but thats just me. I think Ill try it on my next hammock.

I know what you mean about the roll whip ends. It is so much easier, and I cannot tell any difference in the way it hangs since I sewed the channels. Good luch on your new hammock. Mule
