Pad INSIDE the sleeping bag?

My backside felt warm this weekend when I slept in my hammock, but I am always looking for improvements.

I am thinking about putting my pad inside my sleeping bag. Has anyone tried this, or have thoughts on this?

I welcome all feedback.

I tried it once and found it slightly uncomfortable, although it did keep it under me and made it easier get a food diagonal lay and reduced the pressure from the fabric ridgeline.

when I used to rough it on the ground with pad, bag, bivy and tyvek ground sheet that what i used to do. It kept the pad from sliding around too much. Though i do suspect ther is some conductive loss through the remaining loft in the bag.

Big Agnes pretty much uses this concept and it works. So long as your bag is big enough not to sandwitch you between the layers too tight you should be golden.

Sure, that way if it starts getting out of position, its easy to grab and adjust it. OR, you can just unzip your sleeping bag to use as a quilt on top and sleep on top of the pad anyway. Seems like the same difference to me.

This is what I use. BA Lost Ranger with a CCF pad from Walmart. I had no problems with the pad moving although it was very warm at 50 degrees last night.

I have a Klymit Intertia X-Frame. It's meant to go in the bag. The gaps keep the insulation from compressing. And as said above, the Big Agnes bags are designed this way for a pad. Just don't fill the pad rock hard. You're not on the ground so you don't have to worry about bottoming out the pad and it'll fit the hammock shape better.

thats how most TQs are designed, just with straps instead of a second half
