this is the exact hammock I am looking to make! thank you so much for putting up all this information. I think i am finally starting to grasp the instructions. Can you go into a little more detail about you attached the fixed zippered bugnet on the one you made for your wife?

And John that looks great! what kind of nylon did you use? 1.1? and did you also run the zingit around the edges like TZ?

Hey KevinDee, thanks! I made mine out of the 1.9oz from Hancock Fabrics. I didn't run the zingit around the edge (I ran out after making my ridgeline) but I did add a 6" strip of 1/2" webbing to the joint between the footbox and the hammock body just to be sure that everything stayed together. Under normal load there really isn't any stress on that joint, I just wanted to fend off any late night "supprises".

    Hope this helps out!

I made one similar to this last year. The material is 1.1 from thru-hiker.com. It is still hiking strong this year with a few hundred miles (and nights) of backpacking.

I fully made the hammock and hung with the ridgeline and adjusted for fit. I had the wife lay in proper position for fitting and measuring.

Mark the ridgeline at 6 inch intervals, With weight, wife, in position, measure to the hammock edge at each point, left and right meas will differ, record all numbers. Note head end, as the resulting net will be an unusual shape.

Lay out the bugnet flat and draw a centerline diagonally across it the length of the ridgeline + 4 inches. This allows for more stretch, rather than straight on the grain of the net. Mark the line in 6 inch intervals.

Transfer earlier noted measurements to this line at 90 deg from the line, AND,
Add 2 inches to each measurement. Cut. Add #3, 2 way seperating Zipper to full length of each side.

Unwhip hammock and sew zipper to hammock. I started from the center of each side and went to the ends to smooth any puckers and evenly distribute material on the net side and again on the hammock.

Re whip and re hang. Ridgeline may be adjusted more at that point.

    Hope that helps

Without the history with Warbonnet - inspired hammocks, TZBrown and some other members are having an exchange about, I'm having a more difficult time following and visualizing this magnificent hammock.

Rather than burden the designer and implementer, would someone who has followed this augment and label some of the parts of the diagram? For example,
    Which edges get sewn together?
Where are the ends/ edges that are tied?
Which are the polygon edges that along which the reinforcing lines get
    located?

I think these would provide a basic orientation that will make TZBrown's painstaking video much clearer to noobs like me.

Looks great...but over my head right now

I'm a total noob and think I should just start out with making my basic hammock. I'm worried about shoulder and leg pressure points due to health reasons, but I'm not sure that I'm ready for this task yet. It looks so nice though. I'll keep track of this thread so if others add pics and videos perhaps my mind will wrap around it better.

Let me see if I can help -

Here is a picture of my hammock with the footbox. You can see the edges of the triangle piece that is sewn in highlighted with the red and blue lines -

Now here's a diagram of the body of my hammock. you can see the red and blue lines where the triangle seems are -

Also note I have labeled which ends get whipped up. I did not add the zingit reinforcement, but it would run along the whole side you see in the first photo (indicated with the green line)

Let me know if this helps out or if I can provide more details about anything!

    Thank-you, JohnFolsom.
Exactly the minimum but sufficient auxiliary lines that orient me as I re-read the author's description.

I have a bunch of 1.5oz ripstop itching to be made into one of these.

TZBrown, johnfolsomjr, and anyone else who has made one... Any long term reports? What would you change if you made one again?

I'm about 6', how long should I make mine?

    Thanks,
    -S

I used it for over 70 nights last year and it is still going strong. I am about to make a single layer 1.5 using the same dimensions as the first one.

For a 6 foot guy I would probably add 6 inches to the over all length but not hem the channel in the head end until after I did a test hang. Just tie an overhand knot in the hammock fabric and use a larks head around it for a try out. Then adjust and retry if necessary, finally figure where you want the channel and hem, adjust the lengths of the zing it side cords. use the "knotty" method to tie the end, done.

I might shorten the non footbox side some, or add a stretch cord to that side to keep form to the hammock also.

Good luck with yours and keep us posted
