    Whipped Wooki

    Hello everyone,

I tried out how a common whipping for HM and my DIY Wooki is going to work.

At first, I sew my hammock and DIY Wooki to exactly the same length, each with tunnels at the ends. Then I pulled two identical loops through the tunnels at one end of hammock and UQ and hung both parts on a hook. As a result, hammock and Wooki were aligned exactly with each other, both in terms of position and slight curvature. Then I basically did a standard Warbonnet-whipping through the tunnel of the hammock, but I included down the fabric of the underquilt. I repeated the procedure at the other end and attached Amsteel loops at each side - done.

    The result looks like this:

After meanwhile about 20 nights I can say that the effort was worth it. The underquilt fits perfectly, even a little better than the "normal" attachment method. It takes about 15 minutes to loosen the whipping and redo it, if you want to wash the hammock.

I can recommend this for DIYers.

Hm, interesting. Another method to consider when I finally construct my own UQ.

Are you sure that the "wooki" UQ is not under tension when you lay in the hammock? That is to say, it's not a bit too short?

    Thanks for sharing!

The tension is about as great as with the original. The underquilt must absorb the forces generated by stretching of the fabric of the hammock. I made the hammock from 1.6oz HyperD, the stretch is rather low. When using a more stretchy fabric, I would hang the underquilt a little looser.
