Raccoon vs Ursack Minor food bag

. However the Ursack Minor did fail me once. I was on the Long Trail and had my Ursack Minor tied to a tree opposite my hammock. All the food was in a smell proof OP sack. An animal was able to chew through my Ursack Minor but did not chew through the smell proof bag. No idea what animal it was. All food and trash were in the smell proof bag. And thankfully the animal did not get any of my food. I sent it back and received a new one promptly but I always hang my food now regardless of what type of bag it is in.

That is amazing that it got thru the outer sack but not thru the smell proof.

I have often wondered how you keep a smell proof sack smell proof on the outside. As you would have to handle it with hands as you put the smelly items in there?

Yeah it was pretty amazing it got through the outer sack and not the smell proof sack. IDK why but it happened that way and sure glad it did. As for the hand touching the outside of the smell proof sack, that's a very good point. Makes me wonder how effective the smell proof sack actually is. I know for one it's at least another protective layer between my food and the natural environment.

If it's anything like mine, by the time I get done lugging my food around in a pack crammed in with all my other stuff.... it couldn't be any worse. I always chuckle when someone advertises their system as preventing crushing. Even the bear canisters I've seen have looked like everything got smashed. Trail food is just funny that way.

Great video, but now i want to/need to, know what type of material that bag is made from. This would make a great gear hammock for hanging next to you at night, or up in the trees so nothing can get at your food or gear.

Nice work! Might get an Ursack after that vid! I have been using a Garcia Bear Canister. Nothing is getting into that, but it is pretty bulky to lug around. I do have a slew of smell-free plastic bags that I still use inside the canister in the deeper woods.

The Ursack just might meet my needs for a less bulky food storage system. I have had Racoons actually manage to untie the rope when hanging my food! Clever little beasties!
