    Ridgeline Questions

I'm planning on getting a single ridgeline for my tarp and had some questions.

First, what length should it be approximately? What is the lightest way to attach it the tree (besides knots)? What's the best way to attach the tarp to the ridgeline? I'm a backpacker and I like everything as light as possible, but I don't like tying knots.

Hey, I'm a noob, so I know where you're coming from on the knots and stuff. But it's not that hard to tie a Siberian Hitch on one side and a trucker's hitch on the other. But for no knots at all, you could just do a loop on the fixed end and thread the whole thing through it, and then do a figure nine biner on the other. I also use prusiks (super easy and you only have to do those once) holding small nitize s biners to attach to each side of the tarp. Check out Shug's youtube videos - does a whole part on ridgelines. Good luck.

Well the set up i use and like is a dynaglide or lash it rl about 30ft long with a micro biner on one end and a figure 9 on a prussik loop at the other end. Just wrap biner end around a tree and clip and do all adjustments at the other end. For the tarp I do a prussik loop with a hook on both sides then a tensioner attached to the tarp. Easy to adjust, stays tight, and easy to take off the rl and rearrange. To stow it I use a snake skin like thing and some cord caddys. You only have to the knots once with this set up.
