Thumbs up gt ul 1st impressions

want to chime in quickly. i already modified the hammock w/ whoopies and today afternoon was my first hang. i pitched it relatively tight w/ trees ~13ft apart... absolutely loved it!
w/o mozzies around i prefer no nets and i really enjoyed not having even a ridge line for a change. just the blue sky. beautiful.
i tried both diagonals, both on back and side lays. very happy! tomorrow i'm taking it for a day hike in the dandenong np over here & will update this page. everyone should have one of these!

Glad you enjoyed your GT U! I've taken mine out several times and love it! I'm getting ready to test out a WB Traveler, and think it will be a hard decision between these 2 hammocks when I load my pack!

Post some pics and trip report when you get back from your outting! Love seeing pics from that part of the world!

i am waiting for the traveler too. it's in the customs. it may be interesting to compare our comparisons
atm all i know is that the ul is 9oz lighter and that makes a difference for me when i hike.
i also got the wb bug net & plan to use it with both.

yep, we will take a camera

I have the gt ul as well and have really enjoyed it. I still haven't spent the night in it as I tend to opt for my hammock bliss mosquito free hammock, but I'm going to whip up a bug net sometime soon and try it out this summer.

For your whoopies, are you all having them larksheaded through the channel or are you doing a gathered end like warbonnet?

I am stoked... Just ordered an UL, my first hammock.
Hoping that I will dig it, I want to use it for bicycle trips / stealth camping.
Seems like just the ticket for fast setup, and being able to pitch in areas where a tent wouldnt work...
    Looking forward to getting it!

Thanks to everyone on these forums for all the expertise I soaked up while lurking around here the last few days!

I slept in mine for a week at Boy Scout summer camp last month. My 250-lb, 6'2" frame fits pretty comfortably in it. Sturdy and light, and excellent with the whoopie sling mods.

On the other hand, I just finished my first king-sized DIY hammock and am absolutely loving it, too. Ah, decisions, decisions.

I'll try to take a pic of mine set up on my porch today to share. Next week I'll be heading out for an overnight trip and will be making a video of my suspension setup. It's kind of unique, but I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I'll be back Friday afternoon and should have it posted Friday evening, if all goes well.
