First time hanger, long time camper.

Hey everyone, my name is Pete and, I've been lurking on the site for a few months now, looking at my options and doing some research before I make a purchase.

I've always liked the thought of sleeping in a hammock, and for the longest time I wanted to replace my bed with one (mom wouldn't let me)... Well last year I decided I wanted to try something a little different than my regular tent, and thought about making some type of hammock with a rain fly. Sure enough after I made my way to the internet, I discovered someone else had already had the same idea as me and had created an entire camping niche that was exactly what I was looking for.

So I've made the plunge and ordered myself a Hennesy Expedition Asym Zip. I'll typically be camping out of a vehicle, but will have regular weekend excursions, and the game plan is to do a week long hike next summer after we've dialed our system into operating out of a back pack. I've always been a minimalist camper, and the fact that I camp with a vehicle is usually just a product of having miles and miles and miles of open, public forest with miles and miles of bush roads to access it. No point in hiking away from the vehicle when I can camp beside it and still not see another soul for the whole weekend. I'm really looking forward to all the new campsites that my hammock will create for my buddy and I (he picked one up too).

I have a feeling I'll be getting into a lot of DIY gear to support my inital hammock purchase, but I'm thinking that this new hammock, in conjuction with my current kit will definitely get me started.

Thanks to all the informative people on here who, with their discussion, helped me make an informed purchase.

Thanks for the big welcome everyone. The same offer extends to anyone finding themselves around Sault Ste. Marie and area. I've been camping and treking in the area for a long while now, and I know of a lot of great spots for a day/weekend trip.

I'm like a kid at Christmas waiting for my hammock to get here. I love new gear season.
