    30 Minute DIY Hammock

Hello all! A forum member gave me a 132x90 Poly Crinkle Tablecloth - Thanks Mike! I've been wanting to try one of these for a while, so I dug right in and made a gathered end hammock in 30 minutes. I sewed 1" channels at the ends, cinched them up with mule tape, made a quick ridgeline (I just made it to a comfortable length, I didn't measure it at all), added my rings and straps and voila! A truly COMFORTABLE hammock!

I'm very impressed with the material - I did an inspection to see if there were any thin spots or imperfections - no to both. Yes, it weighs 22 oz, but thats not bad for the sheer size of this thing. This is my new "sleep in it all the time" hammock. Super flat lay and no calf pressure anywhere. Left or right lay and plenty of room to move around. My 240lbs didn't stretch it at all. I don't mind the floppy sides - I just fold them over me when I go to sleep.

This is a super deal for someone who wants to make their own hammock for very little cash outlay. I figure you can make a complete hammock for less than $40.00 - tablecloth, ridgeline and straps/rings or whoopies.

    Did I mention it's comfortable?

I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

    Looks nice, and MULE TAPE!

I might break down and make one for myself!

    30 Minute DIY Hammock

I like that color, great job. Wish I could post a link from my phone but can't figure it out, search for side stretch mod or knotty mod. It helps gather up some of the excess side fabric at the foot and head end. . I did it to my 90x132 and it makes a nice foot pocket. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1368767974.929594.jpg

Thanks John - I'm finding mule tape has many uses and when washed is very soft and flexible. It's insanely strong stuff. Appreciate you sending it to me!

Didn't have a choice on the color, but purple isn't bad at all - it's like a purple people eater hammock - you just disappear in it. Yeah, I'll probably do the knotty mod this weekend, but the floppy sides fold nicely when all you want to do is make a lounge chair. I notice this material breathes really well.

Nice job! I recently made a similar one of these(no ridge line) for full-time use. Sleeps good!

Nice job. It's nice to see how quick someone can have a usable hammock if they want one to play with or a spare.
    YMMV

Thank you! Yeah, my "spares" are growing for some reason.
