Question GSMNP: Big Creek (Group Area)

I will be in the group area at Big Creek NC off I40 in mid-July. Have any of you ever stayed at the Big Creek group campsite, and if so, can you tell me if there are hanging trees in the group area? We will be there for 2 nights.

I visited Big Creek last year and walked through but neither saw the group area, nor was I a hanger then, which would have affected my perspective.

    Thanks in advance.

lot of trees in that campground. Hammocks look like a really big burrito to a bear though !

I've camped there. There is a clearing where you would not be able to hang but there are parts along the perimeter that you could camp I'm sure. You'll just have to deal with some ground brush. It's been a couple years since I was there and I wasn't a hanger either.

Sleeping to the sound of the Creek is great but the trail can be a horse poo and fly nightmare.
