This weekend, My son and I shared my tarp with hammock bunk beds. the bottom of his hammock was 10 inches above my chest. I have also shared a tarp side by side if the trees are in the right place. I had myself and my 3 boys under 1 tarp, all hanging. It is fun.

I'd be interested if there is a 3rd round. Just getting into hanging and trying to spread the knowledge to my son's troop.

Depending on price, I'd go for 20

I opened a thread to see if there is any interest in a third run.

I know the third round is long over, but wondering if anyone had maybe 5 badges they could spare? I'm no longer a scout but my nephew is and i'd like some for some family members who are getting into Hammocking

    Badge Requirements

I am the Scoutmaster of Troop 752 in Canton, Ga. Our Troop is about 91% Tree Hangers and we want to continue to encourage new members and other Scouts towards the advantages of hammock camping.

Someone in the troop came up with an idea to offer an [Unofficial] Hammock Camping Merit Badge, and I thought it was such a great idea I wanted to ask for the Forums help in creating it.

So, If you were coming up with requirements for the BSA [Unofficial] Hammock Camping Merit Badge to teach scouts how to hammock Camp, what would they be?

    Example:
    1. Show the parts of an equipped camping hammock
    2. Show how to properly hang a hammock
    a. Show how to protect the tree from damage
    b. Demonstrate 2 techniques to fasten your hammock to a tree

So, what do you got? Anyone care to help a Scoutmaster create the first (Unofficial) BSA Hammock Camping Merit Badge?

    Thanks
Great idea man. My boy scout days were some of my best memories. Wish I would have been sleeping off the ground from back then! Off hand:
    1) Sleep in a hammock for one night in multiple seasons (summer/winter)
    2) Show proper pitch of the hammock and tarp using only hitches and knots
    3) Proper site selection (no widow makers and proper wind blockage)
    4) Demonstrate different pitching techniques for different situations (porch mode and steep winter pitch)

PS: I can only imagine how much better hanging is than the old military surplus tents we used to sleep in. Last BSA camp I went to it was during the 17 year secada hatch and we had no tent zippers! They were everywhere, haha.

If there's a 4th round, I'd be in for 10-20 of them. We have a few hangers in our troop now (myself, my boys, another parent and her son), and a few of the other boys are becoming more and more interested in hammocking. I introduced the troop to the hammock, but I didn't start until last September, so it was late in the season. I imagine by the end of next summer we'll have plenty more hangers in our troop.
