Big Thicket NP/Village Creek SP, 3-4-5 June, Beaumont, TX

This is an area I really want to visit, probably next year late winter/early spring. There are no developed campgrounds in the Preserve, however, back country camping is permitted, accessed by either shank's mare or water. I'm thinking kayaks/canoes would be perfect.

I'm planning a roadtrip/recon for this summer to gather planning info.

Any interest? Any prior experience in the area?

I was looking for another reason to strap the canoe on the truck. When are you going on recon?

Keep in mind this is where people used to go to hide out, back in the Civil war days. Parts of it are like a jungle and very thick. In the summer, it can be very humid and a bit unpleasant for some.

A canoe trip would be more enjoyable. I will be home on leave in late May and June. If anything is planned, I should be able to make it.

Sam Rayburn I think is the biggest lake in Texas, and has great fishing.

If you're home on leave, and want to hang, we'll make something happen. Just keep us up to speed.

An East Texas hang might even draw some of Louisiana boys. Iraq Ninja is right, its already getting into the high 80s with heat index in the low 90s. Hot humid mosquito weather is upon us!

Now thru the middle of May is out. Could get away after that. Putting it off that long will let Iraq Ninja join in the fun. May be pretty toasty/buggy by then, but I've done toasty/buggy before. Let me know...

I fly back on May 24th, and leave on June 13th. I assume we are doing weekends, or do we want to extend it for a few more days?

I will be bringing my night vision goggles in case nobody has ever used em. Nice way to see the wildlife at night.

We still planning to make this a canoe adventure?
