10x14 Tarp, too big?

Doesn't sound too big to me. The bigger the better. I currently use the Noah's 12x12 and am working on a an 11' R/L with 6ft on either side. I canoe/kayak/car camp and made certain that whatever canoe/kayak I bought would carry me and my gear around (proud pound hog here ). I want plenty of room to hang out under the tarp when it is raining, because it always seems to RAIN!!! when I go camping.

Hammock camping in the BWCA and Quetico is GREAT!!! You can certainly make your big tarp work, though a smaller tarp is can be a bit easier to manage overall. I'm still VERY happy with my MaCat Deluxe in SpinnUL. For canoe travel, I can envision taking TWO tarps...a smaller one for the hammock and a big one for kitchen/general community use (especially good if you're with a group).

That's exactly what I do. I used the exact same tarp, a CCS 10 x 14 in 1.1 for my shelter untill I picked up a WB Superfly. Now I carry that and the CCS for canoe camping. The extra size of the CCS makes an excellent community tarp.

No such thing as too big unless you have to pack it. And then it all depends on the weight you are willing to carry. I'm liking the big ole Guide Gear tarps I recently got.

Use it.
Its big enough you can actually make a winter tent with doors over your hammock
