A typical person selling down on eBay doesn't know how to measure down. I wouldn't trust it. Just get it from a reputable dealer. The really good deals are so very few and far between...it's often just easier to get the right stuff the first time and focus on your project.Originally Posted by Boothill

Check out Thaw Corp. Back in the day (1990's) they had something to do w/ REI. Think they were a subsidiary making down outerwearI. No idea what they're doing these days.
One thing- didn't see any country of origin notice on the bag. Any idea where it's from?
from what i can find, thaw is still in buisnees making apparel, but it looks like they haven't made anything for rei since 2000 but did make stuff for them for 30 years, also from what i have found, thaw used to always get their down from poland, but who knows......

I would ask the ebay seller about the country of origin.
Price is great, but as Shadow Alpha said, you may not want the feathers. Guess it depends on your end use.

of quality white goose down. Some of the manufacturers were claiming that they were able to get more consistant grey down - REI may have been one of the places.
I do not know if 550 grey = 550 white for fill power and resiliency, but I gotta say that the modern 800-900 fp white down is amazing! If you can afford the good stuff, go that route. Otherwise you will be picking pin feathers out of your fabric for the life of the item.
