Only one tree in my backyard

Hey everybody - just got me a new WBBB 1.0 DL. But I can't test it out, yet.

I've got a small, urban yard with only 1 tree! We also have clothesline poles about 15 feet apart. Though they are just stuck in the ground and they can't support me without tipping together (I've tried).

So I have a few options:
    1. Re-set the clothesline poles in cement footings. The poles lean already anyway. It's been one of those fix-up projects I've had in the back of my mind for a while anyway. Plus the poles are rusty and in need of paint too.

    2. I could build a hammock stand.

    3. What about that one tree I have? There's really nothing I use to hang the other end. I thought of building some sort of half-stand. But I don't think that's feasible. I think I would pretty much need a whole stand to balance out the weight distribution, etc.

I can't get a car in the backyard to use for one end either - fences and raised garden beds in the way.

Back to #1 - what size cement footings and how deep do they need to go to hold up 250 lbs. or so (I don't weigh that much, extra insurance)? Posts are your standard iron "T" shaped posts.

And #2 option could be accomplished a lot quicker than #1. It's been a little too cold up here in MN overnight to set cement yet. Plus I would want to strip old paint and rust, repaint the poles, etc...

Any thoughts/advice? I'm in a hurry to test out my new rig!

Dig below the frost line for you location, stick your pole in and pour cement. This would be a solution for your 2 pole scenario or you could stick 1 brand new one in 15 feet away from your tree in the scenario above as well.

Extremely easy. I helped Rip Waverly from the forum do this project at his house last year (and then he moved a couple months later). We used 4x4 wooden fence poles. You could put a couple plant hangers up on the opposite sides of the poles too to spruce them up.

Double check with the folks at your local hardware store and they can give you more details for your location.

Use aforementioned car to drive somewhere with more than one tree. Preferably the piney woods.

Possible to rig a temporary half-stand. Several examples exist on the forums. Here is one:

Here are two images of the stand used while camping:

i've got the same problem, but just last week it occured to me. there's a fence close by and i can use that as my other anchoring point. once the hammock is hung the pull on the fence post will be almost in line with the run of the fence. i might have to just drape the tarp over the fence for one side. the post is tied into all the other posts , so there's a lot of resistance to movement there. haven't hung off of it yet, but will do so shortly. btw when i built the fence two years ago, i never got around to triming the posts, so now i have a post that's like 6' tall- pretty clever of me to plan that, no?

i had the same problem. i just went to Home Depot and bought a 4x6x8 post and put it in the ground. i put an eyebolt in it for ease of clipping in. works great, and cost less than $20. just make sure you space it the right distance from the tree for your suspension.
