    Rain and a wet hammock?

I'm relatively new to the hammock camping side of things (just two hangs so far) I'm hooked (no pun intended) although I do use a hammock as a regular bed at home.

All things being equal, I can't see doing tents of any sort under most circumstances. That being said, so far I've been lucky. It hasn't rained.

So my question is how do those of you that have more experience in this than I do keep the rain from following the suspension lines down and soaking the hammock?

I'm sure that the answer is here somewhere, but I can't seem to find it through use of the search engine...so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    SB.

Tie a string (or part of your suspension) in a slipper hitch to your suspension (under the tarp or it doesn't work) and so it hangs, this will allow the rain to run down it, instead of into your hammock.

Yup, as they've said you just need to add a drip line. It sure is nice to be able to setup under a tarp and not get soaked like you would setting up your tent. And depending on your tent the inside might get soaked if it's mostly netting while you're trying to get the rain fly secured.

Ive' hung in the Hoh rain forest. It rained 6" over night. A simple drip line like others have mentioned is more than sufficient. Also, if you have cinch buckle, descender rings, dutch clip or equivalent, on the hammock ends, it will act like a drip line preventing your hammock from getting wet.

I have never gotten wet camping in a hammock....on the flip side, i've never been able to stay dry in a tent.

Have you seen Shug's videos? He talks through how to rig the drip line in concert with your tarp in this video (about 2:40 minutes in).
