    Kansas

I'm from Kansas and have been in Nebraska for about the last 36 years. I know you will be able to find a couple of trees there. The old joke is the wind blows in Kansas because Nebraska blows and Oklahoma sucks.
If the camping is close to the car or truck parking then weight is not as much an issue and lots of things will work. For long hikes then weight will be important.
Making some of your own gear can be easy and save some cash. Look at some of DIY threads of info. Good luck and ask lots of questions. We will be glad to help as much as possible.

One of my favorite Kansas jokes!

    I too paid my dues:
Born in Manhattan, KS in 1970...across from the football stadium of course.
    Escaped to Texas in 1972.
Relapsed and moved back to Wichita in 1983.
Graduated from East High School in 1988; before Heights ever won a football game. My how things have changed.
Made my permanent escape in 1991. I just go back to visit family...occasionally.
    Trust nobody!

Born in Topeka, jumped the river in 93 and live near wonderful Parkville, Mo. now. I lived in Wichita for a year and a half back in 83-84. Wind didn't blow 3 days of that. Gave up flying model airplanes and played model trains instead.

Best thing about Kansas is the Colorado boarder.

I was raised in the central part of kansas...and the only place you will find any serious trees are the rivers...you can try to attach to the thistle and yucca plants

    Raised in Wilson from 91-97
    McPherson 97-02--McPherson College with BS
Moved back in '06 to Osborne...went to the grocery shopping in Hastings, NE...Home of Kool-Aid
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

I haven't been to Wilson recently but have spent quite a few days in May flying RC Slope Planes on the hills surrounding the reservoir.

Which of course means I know exactly where the Garden of Eden is.
