Okay, I have just found out that my mother actually has an old one that was my grandmother sewing machine. It is a singer with a metal body. I don't know much more about this machine, but with that limited info is ther any way to know if it will hold up to the kind of stuff that I will be doing? I also know it is at least 25 years old.
    God Bless,
    Kyle

Congratulations! Your grandmother probably sewed a lot tougher stuff than silnylon, so I wouldn't worry about the machine being up to the task. Plus, the old machines are well-built and last forever. You may have to get it cleaned and tuned, depending on the condition of the machine. Also, don't worry if it doesn't have zig-zag and other fancy stitches, you can do most everything with a straight stitch.

Awesome! Thats great news. I am going to be looking into getting it serviced, but thanks to all who weighed in and helped me find a machine (even though I had one right under my nose).

I've got an old Kenmore, old, metal. I think this one could survive a lot longer than some of the plastic ones with a reasonable amount of care. It has survived me learning to sew so far... mostly because it's way too heavy to heave across the room. j/k

    Congrats on finding a machine!

Great find. I like any machine that is older than I am.
