    Shrinking burry length ?

OK so I made my first set of DIY Whoopies, thanks to Opie for the Amsteal group buy opportunity and this forum for the instructions I did it a little different but it warranted a much better esthetically looking sling.

Now at the main burry I marked out ten inches but when feed all the way though the rope constricts/expands over the pull part of the sling and it goes from a 10inch burry down to an 8inch burry. Is that normal, and is it ok.....I.E. Will it hold my 210 pound body. I am sure it will given the strength of the amsteal, but I figure if Opie puts ten full inches of burry in his whoopies (I have a set from him) then it is for good reason.

All in all I am very happy with them and now I have 6ft whoopies for my GT nanao. Tarp flyz came in mail yesterday too. I'm thinkin its time for a mini get away
I miss my 4.8Lb base weight as a ground dweller...But I sure DON'T MISS the ground.

You will hang just fine on those. It's usual to see the bury length "shrink" once the bury is completed.

No worries, it will hold. Like a Chinese finger trap, it has to get shorter to get larger, in order to make room for the bury.

just for future reference. i just finished making two loops out of 1/8 amsteel.i needed 'em to be an exact dia. when finnished. before actually making them i made a 6inch burry, as a test. shrinkage was 1inch resulting in a 5inch finnished bury.

Mugs, for what it's worth, I chatted with a professional splicer who told me those bury lengths are for really heavy-weight lifting. Think arborists who have to keep trees from falling on houses, and the like.

He said a 2" bury would hold a hammock. I'm a lot less fretful about exactitude after having him explain it that way. Though I admit I'd still bury more than 2".
