Washington coast clean up @ Shi Shi beach.

For those not aware, Washington Coast Savers is a non-profit organization organizes clean up day on the entire Washington coast with the help of volunteers who pick up trash.
    http://www.coastsavers.org/
Additionally there are events along the Oregon and California coast. So really, potentially volunteers flock to the entire Pacific coast of the US just to pick up trash.
Earlier in the year i made a post for partners for a spring hang, and clean up. Additionally i made a post at NWhikers.net
Well just 4 decided to show.

Anyway, ya all missed two rare consecutive days of sunshine on the Coast of Washington.
I packed in a box of 25 thirty three gallon trash bags on Friday and there was just four left over on Sunday

Looks like i overloaded my trash hauling stick

Now i'm not claiming that the 4 of us put that much trash in the dumpster, there were plenty of day hikers who helped haul trash. Thanks to all who helped.

That looks like a great way to spend the weekend. Unfortunately those types of events seem to be never ending. Next time out look for a bigger stick to carry your trash bags out...

The sunset views look like a great reward for a days work...

They will continue to be never ending until attitudes change. I know this sounds cliche, but it's not just local attitudes that need to change, globally attitudes need to change. There's just way too much post consumer waste washing up on the beaches. The majority of what i saw was not derelict fishing gear, yes that was there, but the majority was in the form of empty bottled water containers.

Additionally, the debris from the Tsunami that hit Japan will start washing up on the west coast in the next few years. More volunteers will be needed.

Of course, great photos and "Thanks Much!" for your work picking up trash.

Hammocks seem the way to go over there on the Oly Coast.

Seen your TRs over at NWhikers.net some of which you've also cleaned up garbage at lakes. You're a hero in my book. The crap people ditch in the woods is just sickening.

Like most Americans, I've never thought much about the long term consequences of our consumer choices esp. in regards to plastics and other synthetic materials. In The World Without Us by Alan Weisman, he tells how plastics will not degrade until bacteria will evolve to "eat" processed hydrocarbons. That definitely means we need to collect synthetic litter and bury it into landfills or recycle it.
