Question Looking for places to go in MA

Alright guys I'm pretty new here and not sure where to post this so here goes...

I'm a new hanger in Massachusetts looking for a few good places to hike/backpack (easy to moderate) and of course hang.

Mostly looking for Western/Central MA. But anything in CT, southern NH, and maybe NY is more than welcome.

I know about the Mass group hang coming up but sadly wont be able to make it.

Anyway any suggestions would be more than appreciated...

    Thanks

For a relatively easy hike (no big mountains to climb) and good scenery I'd suggest the AT from Rt 20 just east of Lee where it crosses. Parking available at the trail head. It's an easy half day hike to the shelter area and water at October Mountain. If you have shuttle capability then hike on to Dalton the next day and it's a particularly good stretch.

Check out the WaPack trail in Ashburnham, going into southern NH. Some of it is along roads, and water is spotty in built up areas, but its a nice hike. We did the 21 miles in 2 days. Lots of ridgelines, plenty of places to hang along them.
For quick overnights, I normally just head up to Mt. Watatic, and hike north along the trail. Once you pass the Binney Hill Pond (perfect place to fill up water bottles at the foot of the hill), and hike up to the ridgeline, its a nice view, and fairly easy hiking for an overnighter. Finding water on top of the ridge may be tricky though. I usually find a place to set up, then go back & fill a water bag. You CAN find water up on the ridge, you just need to search some. Views are amazing though-you wont be disappointed!

I would recommend Savoy State Forest, as well as second the recommendation for the Wapack trail. Pittsfield State Forest has some nice sections also.

Fantastic!!! Thank you all for the recommendations.

I cant wait to take my WBBB out on some of those trails.

I had been searching online and it seems that for the most part trails in this area are overlooked by most. So I'm excited to give these a shot.

    Thank you

The Mid State Trail is also one you may want to look into. There are a lot of places that you could do an overnight on. The trail is also on a lot of roads too. I did it in sections years ago-it was fun, and you see some pretty interesting places.

EASTERN Mass also has a lot of places to hike/camp .... one notable trail system is the Bay Circuit Trail and Greenway - about 200 miles circumnavigating the eastern end of the state.

Also Mount Greylock is a nice place ......

Wow... Thank you for all the great suggestions... I never knew there was so much in the area.

Living in Western/Central MA I mostly knew Quabbin Reservoir, Rock House Reservation, The Seven Sisters (which is a bit much for me right now), Holland Glen and thats about it. I'm pretty new to hiking, backpacking and hammock camping (getting into to it to get some exercise in a fun way).

    This is getting exciting!

Adarack, believe it or not, you are truly blessed to live in New England if you are one who enjoys the outdoors. People around the world literally pay money to fly here so they can hike in the areas which are driving distance to you. The Wapack Trail, the MidState Trail, MT Greylock, the AT in MA, all excellent places. Once you gain some comfort and confidence, there's the White Mountains, Grafton Loop, Long Trail. Gosh, the list goes on.
    Enjoy!!
