    Double 1.1 oz big enough?

First post long time reader! Well I have decided to build my first hammock I have a thread injector lined up and I am ready to order what I need to build my gathered end hammock. I want to make it out of camouflage ripstop.. yes another camo ***** and I am proud of it! I found some woodland camo ripstop at B.W.D.D for 3 bucks a yard but its 1.1oz and I am a big guy 5-11 290-300lbs Would it hold my weight if I double layer the fabric then follow Knotty's write up for making a hammock? I dont care much about the extra weight any suggestions would be appreciated.

Warbonnet has a 1.1 DL and that one is rated to 275lbs.
It will probably hold you up anyway but it will probably stretch a little bit to much to get comfy.
You could make a triple layer out of that fabric and it would probably work.

you might try an inside layer of 1.9 oz taffeta, and keep your camo 1.1 outside. Just a thought.

There's DL instructions on backwoodsdaydreamer's site... Don't sew up all the edges, that way you can slide in a pad when you need it...

Unless you are just having to have a woodland camo BWDD has a 1.5 oz ripstop that would make a stronger 2 layer for you. The color is called Foliage Gray but its really kind of a muted olive green / grey. Nice stuff.

If you really want woodland camo Hancock Fabrics in my area carries a 1.9 ox RS in camo that is very strong and a double layer from that would be formidably strong! The prob is Hancock charges $7.99 / yd so unless you have a coupon (they have a 40% coupon out right now) the fabric cost is way up there.

Or buy an ENO or TL - I think they are rated at 400lbs for the double single layer. I think TL has an Earth Day special going on too.

I was checking out the ENO doublenest But what I think I might do is is order 5 yards of 1.10z camo and 5 yards of the 1.9 oz from bwdd

Scott at BWDD sells some great stuff - I made my first hammock with Joanne's stuff, and after buying the 1.1 and 1.5 from Scott, I will never by Joanne's fabric stuff again (only for stuff sacks, etc). Even with coupons at joannes, you are still paying close to what Scott sells seconds for.

If you are more comfortable going with the 1.5, I would. There is not a real noticeable difference in feel - both are really soft.

    Cheers.
